J.B. Handelsman was born in New York City and attended The Art
Students League and New York University. He worked for several years as a freelance
graphic designer, then moved to England where he took up cartooning full time.
His work has appeared for many years in The New Yorker, as well as Playboy
and other publications. For 11 years, he produced a full-page weekly feature for
Punch, the British humor magazine, called "Freaky Fables." He
has also illustrated many books, including "Families and How to Survive Them"
and "Life and How to Survive It," both by John Cleese and Robin Skynner,
and "The Mid-Atlantic Companion" by David Frost and Michael Shea, plus
a number of books for children. He devised a 10-minute animated film for the BBC
called "In the Beginning," based on the Biblical story of the Creation.
He now lives in the United States.
